President’s Report – PAA AGM 2014

We held our 2014 AGM on Saturday 13 September at the Royal Oaks Hotel, Balmain.

Present at the meeting were PAA office bearers, ordinary committee members and 11 members of the association. The AGM ran for 60 minutes and was followed by a bright and informative talk by Brook McCarthy Director of Yoga Reach, on Creating Sustainable Business.

The Committee had a very busy year developing our IT infrastructure. Building on the foundations and fundamentals of past PAA committees, the following developments have been implemented:

  • Online membership
  • Streamlining payment options
  • Streamlining of document uploads
  • Automated reminders of renewals
  • Presentation of PDPs accrued and required
  • Website refresh/update
  • Increased number of PDFs in members login area
  • Behind the scenes data collection and graphing
  • Advertising opportunities and email blasts to notify members of special events
  • International email of our newsletter two months post publication

There was questioning from the floor at the AGM, regarding 2013-2014 expenditure on IT matters. It was pointed out that the online membership system in particular has been reworked and extended over the past year. There have also been several new developments resulting in increased expenditure. I, Jen Guest, will follow up with our IT supplier on the maintenance and ongoing costs incurred by the association, and I will ensure that all fees remain at market competitive rates.

There has also been the development of two new paid roles in the PAA administration. These replace the original role of Carolyn Antony, the Administrator. The roles have been spilt to allow for 15 and 20 hours per week respectively for a Members Relations Officer and a Systems Officer:

For both these roles, contracts have been written which include a salary with superannuation.

Although not a paid position, I would also like to highlight the role played by Sharan Simmons, our Education Officer. Sharan’s email is sharan@pilates.org.au and she is your ‘go to’ contact for any queries relating to PDPs, education providers, recognised workshops and upgrading your own membership level.

Over the past year, membership numbers have increased to 540, with many members upgrading their levels during 2014. Registered studios are up to 31.

This year saw the development of 4 subcommittees, allowing committee members to focus in small group meetings on specific areas of works, thus working more effectively.

  • IT
  • Marketing and Media – Health Packs
  • PAC 2015 (October 23-25) at Australian Technology Park
  • Education

Establishing a Research subcommittee remains a priority, and whilst yet to be convened it is envisaged that in the coming year both Felicia Darbyshire and I will create a sub committee to work on policies for providing assistance to our members for research, data collation, member access and financial grants potential.

Members through out the year had works published in the print media including:

  • The Retiree Magazine
  • Australian Women’s Health and Fitness
  • Link Disability Magazine

All of these have been made available by link on our website.

This AGM saw our current IT coordinator Malcolm Boulter stand down from the committee and hand his IT role over to Kerry Haywood our Systems Officer. We thank Malcolm and wish him well for all future endeavors. Acknowledgment of Malcolm’s contribution to the PAA is included in this newsletter.

Chris Lavelle was nominated and elected onto the committee as an ordinary member and Constantina Kottaridis who is an associate member of the PAA has joined the Media and Marketing subcommittee. Please read the short passages written by each of these girls in this newsletter. I welcome them both onto the committee and look forward to hearing fresh ideas.

Thank you to all who attended this year’s AGM.

Any member wishing to look at the Finance Report may email our treasurer Rachel Reed on rachel@pilates.org.au

Thank you
