What originally motivated you to try Pilates and then go on to train as an instructor?

I have been working in the fitness Industry as a Personal Trainer for over 30 years, and have enjoyed helping clients reach their full potential. After having children, I discovered Pilates and found a great passion for the practice. It was after my fourth child was born that I embarked on my study of Pilates, and I haven’t looked back!

What did you eat for breakfast?

The early mornings are often busy with clients, and preparing the children for school. A Green Smoothie is often my breakfast of choice.

Green Smoothie:
1 frozen banana
half a mango cheek
half a zuchinni
1/4 of a lime
BIG handful of greens of your choice- spinach, rocket, baby spinach, kale etc
300mls of water + ice (optional)
* Blend all ingredients together until smooth.

Enjoy!

In one word, describe your first Pilates experience?

Transformative!

What impact has the recent COVID-19 virus had on your world?

Covid- 19 had a huge impact on my world. Home-schooling four children forced me to slow down and broaden my horizons. ‘Pilates Nest’ opened it doors at the end of 2021, when I recognised the benefits of training clients in small groups/ private one-on-one’s. Having a boutique Pilates Studio nestled in the community, allowed clients to train without visiting large exposure sites.

How have you handled your Pilates teaching with COVID-19, any advice to other teachers?

At ‘Pilates Nest’ we take the health and safety of our community seriously. We wear masks when required, take rapid antigen test regularly, and follow a strict hygiene practice. Health and safety is our number one priority.

Being the sole trainer at Pilates Nest, clients could continue to train without visiting large exposure sites. My advice to other teachers would be sure to communicate to clients, to ensure they feel safe, and that their needs are being met.

What’s the best thing about your job?

It’s a privilege being able to work with clients to achieve their goals. My clients teach me, as much as I teach them. It’s a beautiful exchange.
