What originally motivated you to try Pilates and then go on to train as an instructor?

I’d developed aches and pains through many years working as a tradesman. Mat Pilates, then later, apparatus, improved the quality of my life out of sight. I figured the best way to immerse myself further in the method was to obtain the diploma.

What did you eat for breakfast?

After coffee. 1 cinnamon scroll doughnut and 3 boiled eggs.

In one word, describe your first Pilates experience?

Intriguing

What impact has the recent COVID-19 virus had on your world?

It’s helped me appreciate domestic bliss with my family and I’ve also taken up cooking with great relish.

How have you handled your Pilates teaching with COVID-19, any advice to other teachers?

In studio Pilates, reduce the changing of clients between apparatus during sessions. Tell them about how popular it is currently, performing the whole session on one apparatus.

What’s the best thing about your job?

It gives me the opportunity to connect with a vast range of interesting people.

Your ‘go to’ website for all things Pilates (other than PAA)?

I try to diminish screen time as much as possible. I prefer books for Pilates information.

The best advice you’ve ever had?

In relation to business, “run it lean!”

An indulgence you can’t live without?

Live oysters.

How long have you been a member of PAA and how did you hear about PAA?

7 years, I heard through my educators.

Do you have a motto?

Sleep well, exercise regularly and eat seafood.

What’s the most challenging aspect of your job?

Determining the best exercise selection for everyone, every time.

How do you use PAA?

Reading monthly emails for current news.

Who is your Pilates idol or would love to meet, and why?

Of course JP! I love boxing like Joseph Pilates. I’d be interested to learn how he trained, prior to WWI, as a boxer in London.

What do you appreciate most about your body?

Fast metabolism.

The art of war by Sun Tzu.
