COVID-19 Call to Action – Contact Your Politician

COVID-19 Call to Action - Contact Your Politician

We know our members are confused about whether Pilates instructors will be allowed to practice as restrictions ease.

The PAA is in contact with all Commonwealth, State and Territory Health Ministers and Departments and Small Business Ministers and Offices to urge them to allow accredited Pilates instructors to resume face-to-face practice as soon as possible.

To assist our members navigate the current environment, this document [Summary of Government Approaches] summarises our understanding of the current Australian government approaches to face-to-face Pilates therapy.

What can you do to help?

Many members have been asking how they can help and what to do to support our industry.  If you are frustrated with the mixed messages coming from your government, contact your Politician and encourage all your clients to do so as well. This is the best way to ensure your State or Territory government listens to you and your clients.

Urge your government to ensure access for clients to Pilates therapy at this crucial time.

These ongoing government communications also continue to build a stronger recognition for our profession.

Sample Letters and Contact Details

The table below will assist you in contacting your local government to provide them with information that will help them decide to clearly identify Pilates therapy as a permitted health service when delivered by accredited Pilates instructors.

We have included State specific sample letters that you can use.

Please ensure that you incorporate your own answers to the bullet points below, in the section of the letter that reads as follows: To take an example, [talk about how Pilates therapy helps you/your patients and what would happen without access to Pilates therapy. Talk about how the absence of Pilates therapy could increase visits to GP/ specialist and or reliance on medication].

  • how Pilates therapy is helping/has helped your client (instructor)/yourself (citizen);
  • what else was attempted for pain relief/ therapy/rehabilitation; and
  • what would happen if the person could not access Pilates therapy (e.g. increased visits to hospital/specialist/GP, increased reliance on medication).
  • Include copy of doctor/surgeon’s referral to Pilates (where appropriate);

Please feel free to forward us a copy of your letter at support@pilates.org.au
