What originally motivated you to try Pilates and then go on to train as an instructor?

After enjoying Pilates as a client for the last 10 years and enjoying the benefits. When my kids left home I decided to deepen my understanding of the movements and repurpose myself within the wellness space.

What did you eat for breakfast?

Banana, almond cacao smoothie. Eggs and avo on weekends!

In one word, describe your first Pilates experience?

Inspirational

What’s the best thing about your job?

The people

Your ‘go to’ website for all things Pilates (other than PAA)?

I love the Polestar Pilates Hour each week. Brent Anderson always bringing on guests from all around the world with such varied special interest topics from fascial awareness, movement after breast cancer or deeper focus on anatomy and movement.

What’s your favourite Pilates podcast? Why do you recommend it?

The Pilates Diaries podcast was great to listen to through my studies as it shone a light on inspirational mentors at a grass roots level PAA podcast has lots of great speakers also.

The best advice you’ve ever had?

Allow yourself to be a beginner, no one starts off being excellent. Felt like this advice gave me permission to discard the pressure of perfect….listen , learn and grow.

An indulgence you can’t live without?

My hairdresser appointment. I always struggle to sit still for the time it takes but the scalp massage and fresh feeling after is always a luxury I enjoy and get good vibes from.

How long have you been a member of PAA and how did you hear about PAA?

Since March 2023. Polestar is a big supporter of the PAA and my mentor Simmone Cser-Pratzky was on the committee. She is an amazing advocate for the industry compliant teachers, mentor training and women’s health within the Pilates space.

Do you have a motto?

A few:
Communication, communication, communication
You are who you practice to be
You are the most important project you will ever work on

What’s the most challenging aspect of your job?

Getting past feeling like you have to be perfect, move perfectly and teach perfectly. You will always be learning, adapting and changing.

How do you use PAA?

PAA is a great resource for industry compliance information and legal updates. I think the most useful tool for me will be the online tutorials offered to keep PDP’s up to date especially living in a rural location away from the major cities where the training is readily available face to face.

Who is your Pilates idol or would love to meet, and why?

Kimberley Garlick was a trainer in one of our Polestar Pilates sessions. Her story, being one of the industry pioneers within Australia is really amazing.

I would also fangirl over Jane Fonda, I know she is not specifically Pilates but my mum played her fitness record and did her work out every day, probably where my love of fitness originated.

What do you appreciate most about your body?

I love being intuitive with my body and varying my training each week is different.

I know as I am aging I am moving with more mindfulness, Pilates gives me strength within my body and also my mind overall.

The book you’re currently reading?

Malibu Rising and Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins-Reid were the last books I read for entertainment, lots of time for learning and studying reading texts!!
