Important Changes to the PAA

Changes To The PAA

There has been concern expressed from some members that their qualifications will no longer be recognised by PAA for membership.

To clarify: the new PAA membership requirements outlined below apply to new graduates only. All current members qualifications will continue to be recognised by the PAA membership levels.

Changes to PAA membership requirements
From 1st March 2013 onwards: all new graduates of Pilates courses in Australia will require the course to be Government accredited in order to register as a member of PAA.

To register with the PAA for Matwork membership, graduates will require a minimum of a Certificate IV in a Pilates specialist course not a ‘fitness pilates’ course or other‘ Pilates-movement’ courses
.

To apply for PAA full membership all new graduates will require a minimum of a Pilates specialist Diploma to instruct in a studio setting. Advanced Diploma adds to the knowledge base for Pilates Instructors who possess a Pilates specialist Diploma.

These changes are for new graduates completing courses from 1st March 2013.

As the PAA strives to increase the profile of Pilates and qualified Pilates instructors throughout Australasia, the PAA committee consider a government accredited certification a desirable upgrade for current members so as to bring them in line with the new qualification criteria. This will also strengthen PAA position to seek greater recognition and eligibility for health fund rebates for member services.
