Associations Forum National Conference 2019

Conference Report by Sharan Simons, PAA President

I was joined by Felicia- Committee member and Kerry- Systems Officer at the 2 day Associations Forum national conference in Canberra recently.  There were sessions and discussions on all things associations – governance, membership recruiting, retention and engagement, events, advocacy and innovation.

The conference featured inspiring keynote speakers, panel discussions and presentation sessions. With up to 4 concurrent sessions running and very diverse topics, we planned our days to attend as many relevant sessions as possible.  The speakers and panelists were from different associations and organisations across many sectors and industries, all sharing their knowledge, experience and challenges within a changing landscape. It seems that change is the constant factor amongst most sectors. The challenges faced and strategies employed were key to the discussions within each session.

The exhibition hall was full of products and services specific to associations or tailored to the needs of associations and Not For Profit organisations and provided some great contacts.

The conference and awards dinner at Parliament House was an unexpected and unique experience for delegates. After going through security, cocktails were served in the Marble Foyer before being treated to an amazing dinner in the Great Hall.

Reports from the conference have been provided to the committee, with further discussion on the agenda for the next committee meeting in August, we will keep you updated.
