For PAA members with a leaning towards research and scientific theory, we’ve recently discovered an engaging and highly informative website devoted to cataloguing and reviewing current Pilates based research: pilatesscience.org

The website is a work-in-progress project, created and curated by Exercise Scientist, Classical Pilates Teacher and Teacher Educator Enja Schenck M.S., from Brooklyn, NY.

Enja claims to be equally fascinated by the original Pilates method and movement science research. The stated purpose of the website is to:

  • Inform about Pilates articles published in scientific journals to date in an easily categorized manner (Articles > by category)
  • Update monthly on current Pilates research (Articles > by month)
  • Review selected articles in easily understandable English (Featured Articles)
  • Reveal potential limitations
  • Educate Pilates professionals about scientific research (Research 101 > Research Intro).

For the uninitiated there are several easy to understand pages under ‘RESEARCH 101’ devoted to helping understand more about research, and Enja regularly runs surveys that allow her readers to vote on which new article she will review. You can subscribe to her RSS feed for regular updates from the website and she also invites guest reviewers to contribute.
