President’s Report February 2018

Jen Guest PAA President

Jen Guest PAA President

Welcome to the new year, members. I sincerely hope that you have all had a warm and relaxing summer season and see your classes/studios filling with people excited about finding better body movement, awareness, control and endurance.

The PAA has, at top of mind, the planned government changes to health rebates pending for April 2019. We have engaged in discussions with other complimentary medicine organisations, lobbyists and regulation experts preparing best practice methods for conveying our expertise to the wider community.

It is warming to have other associations and groups contact us looking for affiliation as we sit as a highly recognised organisation. We are currently working on several collaborations which will be communicated further over the coming weeks. Sinclair + May, a Melbourne based legal firm will be rolling out a webinar series to our members covering legal and business topics relating to Pilates instructors and Studio owners. BMS Insurance, insurers to Allied Health, will be providing an optional insurance addition to our yearly membership for professional indemnity and public liability, and also to those who require further workplace insurances. This process will be clearly defined and explained via email and newsletter before the option is rolled out in early April. Just remember to read your emails as we inform you of each step of the process.

The PAA Conference 2019 has been booked for September 13-15 at the Sydney ICC. A new space has been completed, which will provide a city central, open, bright and spacious area for our needs. Pop the dates in your diary in preparation and I will keep you updated with presenters and workshops as confirmations are made.

This is my final year on the PAA. After a nine year tenure, I will step down from the committee in November at the AGM. Somewhat like Cinderella approaching midnight! Over these coming 10 months, I will be working diligently on completing my planned goals and projects, as well as creating a flawless and fluid succession plan. In addition, the Vice President, Treasurer and at least one general committee position will be up for re-election. I have seen our organisation grow exponentially over these past 8.25 years and I am confident that a change in the committee will allow for equal development over the coming 5 years. As we grow further into a leading and prominent industry body, we will be focusing on the business aspect of our association, engaging the services of a CEO, guidance from Associations Forums Australia and further formalised business planning.

I’m delighted to welcome Lisa Jackson and Joanne Bezzina to our committee. Lisa will take on additional roles in Research and Education sub committees, and whilst queen of the screens, Jo will add too to our social media team.

Well, there are only 6 weeks left until Easter, my personal favourite time of the year. I assure you, you will hear from me lots over the coming months. Feel free to email me at anytime: jen@pilates.org.au.

Jen xx
