PAA at Melbourne Fitness Expo

29 April-1 May the PAA participated in the Fitness and Health Expo held in conjunction with Filex conference in Melbourne. The focus at the Expo was to reinforce the PAA as the leading Pilates Industry Body setting standards and to promote accredited Pilates training offered by PAA Education Bodies. It was also an opportunity to promote PAA members as we highlighted the PAA Find an Instructor search facility.

Sharan Simmons, Vice President and Mary Mc Arthur, Secretary setup and hosted the PAA stand with the help of Jen Guest, President, Raphael Bender from Breathe Education and Andrew Aroustian from Pilates ITC.

Pilates was well represented and the PAA were in great company in this huge Expo hall with HF Industries (Balanced Body equipment) and Fitness Generation (Peak Pilates equipment) just a few aisles away alongside several other Pilates equipment suppliers also exhibiting.

The first day of the Fitness and Health Expo was open to trade and industry guests only, Sharan Simmons and Mary Mc Arthur represented the PAA and engaged in very positive conversations regarding Pilates training and education, accredited courses and the PAA’s position as Industry Body. Friday proved to be an excellent opportunity for networking across industries.

On Saturday and Sunday the expo was open to public as well and this proved to be a great opportunity for exposure for Pilates and the PAA. Public enquiries were primarily about Pilates training, standards and finding a qualified Pilates instructor or studio in their area. The PAA Find an Instructor search demonstrated on the stand proved very useful in locating local PAA members for potential clients.

PAA presenters Mary Mc Arthur, Pilates Tasmania and Katrina Edwards, Aligned for Life featured on the Healthy Living stage over the weekend.  Mary entertained with her talk- Pilates for Life, following her journey from a fitness career to Pilates, through illness to health. Katrina highlighted the focus of Pilates for Elite Conditioning with a reformer demonstration on equipment supplied by HF Industries.

Broadly, the Expo was a great opportunity for PAA to gain exposure and credibility within the fitness and health industry arena, connect with other professionals, and professions, and to have a platform and voice within this community.

Following the success of Melbourne, the PAA will be attending two other Fitness and Health Expos around Australia this year and would like help promoting Pilates at these events. The next Expo is in Perth, 19-21 Aug and then Brisbane 21-23 Oct.
