  1. What originally motivated you to try Pilates and then go on to train as an instructor?

I was touring in Europe with Compagnie Philippe Genty and I needed a strong warm up that I could do in any size warm up room. I took a Pilates Mat program that I had just been taught from Megan Williams’ studio in Sydney.  It worked so well that I wanted to learn more, this is what inspired me to train as an instructor.

  1. What did you eat for breakfast?

A boiled egg (free range, hormone free!) a piece of spelt toast and a peppermint & liquorice tea.

  1. In one word, describe your first Pilates experience?

Synchronistic

  1. What’s the best thing about your job?

Working with all ages and all types of pathologies and seeing the gradual changes and improvements in their posture, their movement ranges and their increased understanding and awareness of their full mind/body potential.

  1. Your ‘go to’ website for all things Pilates (other than PAA)?

Pilates Anytime, but I like to read books more!

  1. The best advice you’ve ever had?

Work with the body in front of you.

  1. An indulgence you can’t live without?

Chai, almond latte and chocolate power ball.

  1. How long have you been a member of PAA and how did you hear about PAA?

Since its inception in 2001 at the time I was a senior instructor for Sally Anderson at Pilates International in Sydney and Sally was the founding president of PAA.

  1. Do you have a motto?

Breath is the key.

Oh and the most common question I ask my clients – have you drunk any water today? – some may think that that is my motto!

  1. What’s the most challenging aspect of your job?

Helping each individual find their ‘hook’ for Pilates.  Many clients arrive with a pre-existing injury and or habits that are hard to release, for example someone who has spent years at the gym working out with poor posture – it’s hard for them to trust the Pilates process.

  1. How do you use PAA?

Being a member of a peak body is important to me, I believe it helps new clients make the decision to try our studio as opposed to a studio that doesn’t follow the codes & ethics of a peak body.

It’s a way to learn about the Pilates community, it represents qualified Pilates Instructor to the wider community and importantly can further lobby the Government for recognition as a valid health profession.

It facilitates continuing education for best practice, progress and quality of Pilates in Australia.

It’s very important and hats off to all the committee members who strive to make a difference and give their time & expertise for free.

  1. Who is your Pilates idol or would love to meet, and why?

Sally Anderson, I began teaching for Sally Anderson in 2000.  I have always loved her vision, her energy, her commitment to the development and quality of Pilates in Australia. She has made enormous contributions to the growth and evolution of Pilates in Australia and overseas and she continues to do so.  I have learnt so much from her.

I also love the work of Karen Clippinger and Blossom Leilani, luckily, I’ve met them all!

  1. What do you appreciate most about your body?

It’s intuitive abilities.

  1. The book you’re currently reading?

I’ve actually got three on the go – Stalking Wild Psoas by Liz Koch, Modern Essentials A Contemporary Guide To The Therapeutic Use Of Essential Oils and I’m attempting Le Client by John Grisham which is written in French and is more of a long-term project…
