Book Review: Conditioning for Dancers by Eric Franklin (2nd Ed.)

Conditioning for Dancers is a great addition to Eric Franklin’s work.  It has beautiful imagery throughout with great descriptions and explanations and is full of exercises that not only help with conditioning, but also offer strategies for injury prevention for dancers.  One of the stand outs of Eric Franklin’s work is the way he includes exercises and imagery that is aimed at helping the reader to become more kinesthetically aware and hence able to perform better overall.

I found this book had lots of excellent information that not only highlighted exercises, of which there are many, but also concepts and imagery that are important to understand both when training dancers or if you are a dancer yourself looking for ways to improve your performance.

The exercises in the book utilise therabands that will work the whole body whilst specifically targeted at improving dance positions and movement.  It was also great to see some good information that is beneficial in helping improve hip turnout by way of understanding hip joint and pelvic mechanics.

I can certainly recommend this book to anybody working with dancers or if you are a dancer looking for new exercises to incorporate in to your program.
