President’s Report May 2017

Jen Guest PAA President

We are already a quarter through the year. I sincerely hope that you have all had a fabulous three months.

This newsletter is filled with relevant articles on research, literature, legal and fun information. Do enjoy your read.

I trust that you are enjoying the recent surveys being sent to each member. We are collating the information and using data received to assist in creating changes and acknowledging areas of need amongst our Pilates community. The first survey proved successful with a significant number of members completing, and the results of the second survey are being collated as I write this address. You may refer to the article on Employment Status Contractor versus Employee with this newsletter as the survey suggested that a good percentage were unsure about the legalities of the contract they held or whether they had even signed a contract of engagement.

You would all be well aware of the changes to the BUPA Living Well package and the distribution of provider numbers to Pilates instructors as of 1st June 2017. This has bought the task of Regulation of the Pilates Profession back to the top of my list and an affiliated sub committee to the PAA general committee is working through the previous submission and it’s progression. I will keep you up to date with progress in each quarterly newsletter.

I hope that all full members are taking advantage of your subscription to the Journal of Bodywork and Movement and finding it a most interesting resource.

Welcome to all of our new members and congratulations to all of you who have upgraded in the past quarter.

The PAA Constitution will need to be submitted to the Department of Fair Trade NSW by September 2017, under their new requirements. Please read Mary McArthur’s article in the body of this newsletter outlining the proposed changes and method of enquiry around these changes.

The Conference is on September 15th -17th 2017 and is filling fast. Please register soon if you have not already.

Stay warm as we head into winter and I will speak to you all soon.

Jen x
