OSCA Submission Add-Ons

Option 1: If you deliver condition-specific classes

Add this sentence at the end of Q8 or Q9a:

I also deliver condition-specific Pilates classes for participants sharing a common condition or functional presentation. These classes involve screening participants, identifying contraindications, and providing individual modifications, which differs from standardised group exercise.

Q9b — Workforce size and demand (optional)

I deliver condition-specific Pilates classes for participants with shared conditions or functional goals. Demand for these classes is increasing, particularly for older adults, injury recovery, and chronic condition management.

I expect demand for condition-specific Pilates to increase over the next five years as more people seek supervised exercise for health and functional outcomes.

Option 2: Studio owners / employers

Q8 — Issues with current classification

I am a studio owner/employer and I employ Pilates instructors delivering individualised and condition-specific Pilates services.

These roles involve assessment, program design, and individualised modification for clients. Some practitioners also work with injury, chronic conditions, and complex presentations.

This differs from standardised group fitness instruction. These roles require comprehensive Pilates teacher training or Diploma-level education and independent decision-making.

The current classification does not reflect the education, responsibility, and service delivery model used within Pilates studios.

Q9a — Proposal for revised occupation

I support recognition of Comprehensive Pilates Instructor and Therapeutic Pilates Practitioner as distinct occupations.

Within my business, instructors deliver assessment-informed, individualised programs and condition-specific group classes. More experienced practitioners manage highly complex clients.

These roles require comprehensive Pilates training and differ substantially from standardised group fitness instruction.

Recognition of these occupations would better reflect workforce structure, training requirements, and service delivery within Pilates studios.

Q9b — Workforce size and demand (optional)

In my business, demand for Comprehensive, condition-specific and Therapeutic Pilates services have increased. Clients increasingly seek individualised programs and supervised exercise for injury recovery, chronic conditions, and functional improvement.

We require instructors with Comprehensive Pilates training to meet this demand. These roles differ from standardised group fitness instruction.

I expect demand for Comprehensive and Therapeutic Pilates Instructors to increase over the next five years, particularly due to ageing populations and increasing chronic health conditions.
