Member News February 2023: Welcome to APMA Members

A Warm Welcome from PAA President, Robyn Rix

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new members. This month’s list includes a number of members from the Australian Pilates Method Association (APMA) and is especially exciting as it represents a major step forward in having one strong voice for professional Pilates instructors/teachers in Australia.

As a bit of background, we have been in discussion with the APMA for some time now to see if we could join forces.

A member vote last year for the APMA to join AUSactive was unsuccessful and the entire APMA executive stood down. It has been a challenging time for the APMA, and it is with some sadness that we look like losing the original Australian Pilates Association.

But, it also gave us an opportunity. We made an offer to APMA members to join the PAA and we are thrilled that this has been well received.

By joining as one, we will be the only Association that has, as its sole purpose, representation of professional Pilates instructors and teachers in Australia and the largest representative of Pilates professionals in Australia. We have more strength as one to effect change critical to our members, our clients and our industry.

The PAA committee strongly believes that it is important to acknowledge the contribution of the APMA and we have the following in train:

  • We are in discussion with several APMA members to have them join the PAA committee
  • In an upcoming newsletter we will have a feature on the history and success stories of the APMA
  • We have held one information meeting for APMA members and we will be keeping the communication lines open to ensure we have a two-way flow of information

We all have so much in common – especially a passionate belief in the benefits of Pilates. We may have some small differences of views & opinions & that is to be encouraged, actively sought and listened to as it makes for a healthy organisation. But the issues that we face in our industry are much more pressing and together we can do more. Just being able to say that we have one Pilates association speaks volumes for our ability to work together.

I look forward to further announcements, in particular regarding new committee members.

Regards,

Robyn
PAA President
